Bio
Nurturing Minds for Success was founded by Shelina R. Shankar, a British Columbia, Canada, Elementary School Special Education Teacher with 25 years of teaching experience both as a K-7 Classroom Teacher, Learning Assistance, and Integration Support Teacher. Working with students struggling to achieve success in the classroom and having gaps in their learning, at all Elementary Grade levels, Shelina discovered strategies and tools to support successful outcomes for students and to help them overcome barriers to their learning.
These skills were further enhanced, upon completion of her Orton Gillingham Literacy and Math Training a few years ago. From her personal experience, as well, Shelina was convinced further that student success hinges on much more than a sole focus on Academics.
Nurturing Minds for Success Learning Centre Ltd. was Founded by an Elementary School Special Education Teacher to
- Focus on the whole child and not just remediation of academic gaps
- Support students with literacy and math foundational skills development using the Orton-Gillingham Approach, an evidence-based approach used to support students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
- Support students in understanding that enhancing their body-mind-spirit connection can serve to improve academic performance and help students reach their fullest potential. For this reason, support in developing mindfulness, self-regulation strategies, development of healthy eating habits and improving physical fitness, are all part of our centre’s focus.
- Support and educate parents to help support their child at home.
